Lightning McQueen is now a Scentsy Buddy (and here is what he smells like)
If there is a four year old in your house, you already know how this one is going to go.
Scentsy have made Lightning McQueen into a Scentsy Buddy, and he arrives with a fragrance of his own. It goes live at 7pm on Monday 3 August, and there are three ways to buy into it depending on what you actually want.
What a Scentsy Buddy actually is
Worth explaining, because plenty of people buy their first one without quite knowing.
A Buddy is a soft toy with a zipped pocket in it. Inside the pocket goes a Scent Pak, a small fabric sachet holding the fragrance. The Pak scents the toy, and the toy scents whatever is near it. Nothing gets warmed, nothing gets plugged in, and there is no wax involved at all.
That is why Buddies end up in bedrooms, in car seats and in overnight bags, where a warmer would be no use whatsoever.
When the fragrance eventually fades, and it does after a few months, you take the old Pak out and put a new one in. The Buddy carries on. Any Scentsy Scent Pak fits any Scentsy Buddy, so you are not locked into Radiator Springs forever if the child moves on to something else.
What Radiator Springs smells like
Energised lemon · Pink grapefruit · Red cherry · Sweet sugar
Sweet. Very sweet, and not pretending otherwise.
The lemon and grapefruit hit first and give it a fizzy, slightly sherbety edge, the sort of thing that reads as fresh rather than sugary for the first few seconds. Then the cherry and the sugar arrive and it turns into something much closer to cherry lemonade.
It is a children’s fragrance and it is unapologetic about that. If you want something restrained, this is not it.
Which is fine, because it is not aimed at you. Children tend to love this sort of blend, and the bright fruit does at least keep it from going cloying in the way that pure candyfloss scents can.

For a wax warmerThe Buddy at £60 comes with the Radiator Springs Scent Pak already inside, so if it is a present there is nothing else to order and nothing to explain on the day.
The Scent Pak on its own at £10.50 is for houses that already have a Buddy or two. Swap the Pak, and the bear or the dinosaur or whatever is currently sitting on the bed now smells of Radiator Springs instead.
The Scentsy Bar at £9.50 is the same fragrance for a wax warmer. This is the one to add if you want the whole room rather than one corner of a bed, and it is the option most parents end up buying alongside the Buddy rather than instead of it.
If this is a Christmas present
Licensed Buddies sell through faster than the rest of the Scentsy range, and the Disney ones fastest of all. Stock is not guaranteed to last until December.
If you are buying ahead, buy early and put it in a cupboard. We would rather tell you that now than have you message us in November asking whether we can get one.

Sometimes the answer is the £10.50 Pak rather than the £60 Buddy. We would far rather say so.
