Quick answer: Scentsy mixology is simply melting cubes from two different Scentsy Bars in the same warmer to make a fragrance of your own. Use the same total amount of wax you normally would, so one cube of each bar in a full-size warmer, start with scents that share a note or sit in the same fragrance family, and give the blend half an hour to settle before you judge it. There is nothing to buy and nothing to measure.
Most of us have a bar we adore and a bar we bought on a whim and never quite finished. Mixology is what happens when the two meet in the dish: a raspberry bar warmed with a vanilla bar suddenly smells like a pudding, and a pine bar with a cranberry bar smells like a Christmas table. This guide covers how to mix Scentsy Bars, which pairings are reliable, how many cubes to use and the honest trade-offs.
What is Scentsy mixology?
Scentsy mixology is the name Scentsy fans use for combining two Scentsy Bar fragrances in one warmer. Because every Scentsy Bar is the same soft wax and breaks into eight cubes, cubes from different bars melt together evenly, and the fragrances blend rather than fighting. Scentsy’s own fragrance team encourages it: their advice is to choose scents with complementary notes, to try a bold, complex scent next to a simple single-note one, and to keep a record of the combinations you love.
It is a different thing from layering fragrance around the home, where you put a fresh scent in the hallway and a cosy one in the lounge. Mixology happens inside a single dish. If you want the room-by-room approach, our guide to how to layer home fragrance covers that side.
How do you mix Scentsy Bars in one warmer?
The method is the same every time, and it takes about a minute.
- Start with a clean dish. Mixing into a dish of old, faded wax muddies the result. Let the wax cool and lift it out, or use a Cotton Cleanup to soak it up while it is still melted. Our guide to removing wax residue has the gentle ways to do it.
- Keep the total the same. A full-size warmer is happiest with one or two cubes in total, so use one cube of each bar. A mini warmer takes one cube, so break one cube of each bar in half and use the halves. Adding extra wax does not add extra fragrance; it just fills the dish and takes longer to melt.
- Switch on and wait. Give the blend 20 to 30 minutes. The first few minutes often smell like whichever scent melted first, and the real result arrives once both cubes are fully liquid and have had time to mingle.
- Adjust next time, not now. If one scent is shouting over the other, shift the balance on the next refill, perhaps a whole cube of the quieter bar and half a cube of the louder one. Resist the urge to keep adding wax to a full dish.
- Write it down. A note on your phone with the pairing and the ratio saves guesswork next time.
If you are new to warmers altogether, our guide to how to use Scentsy Wax Bars covers the basics first.
Which Scentsy Bars mix well together?
The most reliable pairings share a note. Vanilla is the great connector in Scentsy mixology because it rounds off almost anything, so a plain vanilla bar is the one to buy if you only buy one bar for blending. After that, think in pairs: a fruit with a cream, a tree with a berry, a fresh scent with a floral. Here are combinations from the bars we currently list, grouped by the mood they give.
Cosy and sweet
- Black Raspberry Vanilla + Very Vanilla. This is the kind of bold-plus-simple pairing Scentsy itself suggests. The vanilla softens the raspberry into something closer to a dessert.
- Blueberry Cheesecake + Very Vanilla. Creamier and less fruity than the cheesecake on its own; lovely in a lounge on a wet evening.
- Jammy Time + Vanilla Bean Buttercream. Jam and cake. If you love Jammy Time but find it a touch sharp on its own, this is the fix.
- Cocoa Cashmere + Mistletoe Mint. Chocolate and mint for December. Go half a cube of the mint to start, because mint tends to lead.
Festive and spiced
- Iced Balsam + Cranberry & Tinsel. The Christmas tree and the bowl of berries beside it. One of the easiest festive blends to get right.
- Christmas Cottage + Very Vanilla. Christmas Cottage is a rich, spiced bar; a cube of vanilla makes it gentler and more like baking than potpourri.
Fresh and clean
- Clothesline + Luna. Clean laundry with a soft floral lift. Bedrooms and landings suit it.
- Coconut Lemongrass + Aloe Water & Cucumber. Spa-fresh for bathrooms and kitchens, where heavier gourmand blends can clash with cooking.
- Amazon Rain + Seagrass & Sand. A Scentsy-suggested pairing: rainfall and shoreline together, calm and green, well suited to a home office.
Floral and fruity
- Petals & Peaches + Bora Bora Blossom. Scentsy pairs these for dining rooms. Peach stops the florals feeling formal.
Treat these as starting points rather than rules; the bar you expect to dominate often turns out to be the shy one. If you are not sure which fragrance family you lean towards, the Scentsy Scent Finder narrows it down in two questions.
What should you avoid when mixing Scentsy Bars?
Mixology is forgiving, but a few habits lead to disappointment.
- Three strong characters at once. Two is the sweet spot. A third scent only works when it is a quiet one, such as vanilla or a clean cotton, playing the role of background.
- Opposites with nothing in common. A sharp ocean scent with a heavy cinnamon bar can feel abrupt. Scentsy does say that cross-family surprises can be the most memorable, so by all means experiment, but do it with half cubes so a miss costs little.
- Topping up a tired dish. A fresh cube added to wax that has already given up its fragrance smells mostly of the new cube. It is fine for a quick change, but it is not a true blend. Our note on how long Scentsy scent lasts explains why the wax stays in the dish after the fragrance has gone.
Is Scentsy mixology worth it? The honest trade-offs
For most people it is the cheapest way to multiply a collection, but it is worth knowing what you give up.
- You cannot un-mix. Once two cubes have melted together, that wax is a blend until it is finished. If you dislike the result, you either live with it for a few evenings or lift it out and start again, which means two cubes used for one lesson. Half cubes keep the stakes low.
- Blends are gentler than singles. Two fragrances sharing one dish each have half the space, so a blend rarely hits as hard as a full dish of one bold bar. If you want the strongest possible throw in a big room, a single bar is still the better choice; if you want a more rounded, personal scent, mixing wins.
- Seasonal bars come and go. If one half of a blend you love is a seasonal bar, it may not be around next year. Blends built on year-round bars such as Very Vanilla, Clothesline or Luna are the ones you can keep coming back to.
- It costs nothing extra. At £8 a bar, two bars give you two single scents and at least one blend, and a cube of vanilla does useful work in every category above.
At The Scented Candle Store we are Alan and Jason, Independent Scentsy Partners, and mixology is one of our favourite things to talk about because it turns a shelf of half-used bars into something new. If you would like a pairing suggestion for a bar you already have, send us a message with its name and we will happily suggest a partner for it, with no pressure to buy anything at all. Our help and delivery page has the details on ordering and returns if you do decide to add a bar or two.

Frequently asked questions
Can you mix two Scentsy Bars in one warmer?
Yes. Scentsy Bars are all the same wax, so cubes from different bars melt together evenly. Scentsy encourages mixing cubes to create your own fragrance, and most people start with one cube of each bar in a full-size warmer.
How many cubes should you use when mixing Scentsy Bars?
Use the same total you normally would. In a full-size warmer that is two cubes, so one of each bar; in a mini warmer, half a cube of each. Adding more wax does not make the fragrance stronger.
Which Scentsy Bar is best for mixing?
A plain vanilla bar such as Very Vanilla is the most useful, because it softens fruit, spice and bakery scents and rarely clashes. Clean cotton scents such as Clothesline are the next most versatile.
How long should you wait before judging a Scentsy blend?
Give it 20 to 30 minutes. The first scent to melt tends to dominate early on, and the true blend only arrives once both cubes are fully liquid and have had time to mingle.
Can you add a new cube to wax already in the dish?
You can, but if the old wax has lost its fragrance the result will mostly smell of the new cube. For a proper blend, empty the dish first and melt the two fresh cubes together.
